Excitement and Expectation

I'm excited to be amazed. It was a great start: friends all meeting in a room, talking, having fun. Then [we] went out to go on our day hike. It's been fun so far.

A Park Ranger talked to us about mountains and showed us his skills, by playing the flute. It took him two months to make a sound come out of it. It took me and Jazz to make a sound come out of it, too.

Then [we] went hiking out [and] saw the different mountains: North Dome, Half Dome, the [Royal] arches. Took pictures. It's [fun] getting to know people from places we've never been to.

I love it out here so far. I've never seen trees with red stripes, like hot wax was melted on them. [The] day is not over just yet so I'm hoping for more excitement. By the way, the cream cheese was great.

Rancheria Falls at Night: 10/31/01

It is dark outside like my exterior side. Feels great to be out at [Rancheria] Falls when the moon's out. It lights up like [a] candle.

Wilderness in my past, present, and future...

PAST...I had no experience in the wilderness before as much as some people I know.

PRESENT...I love it out here. Especially in the mornings because that is the time we have the most fun due to the fact that it gets really dark fast. The worst part is the cold. I should have brought clothes with more padding.

FUTURE...I would be glad to come back anytime except winter because it's too cold for the city guy. I want more convenient places for sanitation. Also would love to see the trails cleaned up a little more.
