  • Los Angeles: New Village Girls Academy

Students from New Village Girls Academy presented to their peers and school administrators about their experience in the Yosemite Wilderness.

When asked how the students would like to be ambassadors for Wilderness upon their return from Yosemite, they were immediately excited about the idea of presenting to their peers. They attend a small charter school in Los Angeles, where public speaking is a part of the school culture. About 60 individuals attended the presentation, including the principal and other teachers.

All 10 of the WildLink alumni presented. Some of them worked on the video slideshow, one shared her letters home from her WildLink journal, and some took questions from the audience. Lead chaperone and Leadership Through Internships Coordinator Russell concluded the presentation by awarding the first annual Spirit of Yosemite award to two of the most positive members of the WildLink crew, Kate and Leslie. They both received a plush black bear and an invitation to return on next year’s WildLink expedition.
