A good friend ofmine once told me that being happy is much easier than most people believe. He said, “The secret to happiness is this: there is no secret. You create your own happiness each and every day.” This week, I have learned that his words hold true for many other emotions in my life. When I was climbing to the top of Cloud’s Rest, I had to create my own courage. When I had been walking for 7 hours, I had to create my own strength. I have learned the true meaning of mind over matter.
Being in the wilderness this week has shown me the beauty in simplicity. The Earth, in its unaltered form, is truly the most breathtaking thing I’ve ever seen. The depths of the Valley, the vastness of the starry night sky, the colors painted on the mountains by the setting of the sun…nothing made by man could ever compare to these things.
