Day 1: Today we had our 6 mile hike which took about 6 hours. We started at 1:30 and got to the campsite around 8:00. On the way there, nearly everyone was complaining because we had to carry 50 pound bags willed with our clothes, food, and tent. One girl ended up getting so tired that she couldn't carry her bag after we got half way. So one of our guides had to carry it the rest of the way and I carried the food she had in her bag. After setting up our tents and eating. I couldn't wait to sleep as my hips and feet felt extremely sore and cold. The hike was pretty stressful but that sleep was the best I've had since I've started junior year.
Day 2: We had oatmeal for breakfast today. It seemed a bit nasty at first, but after you get past its sticky, gooie and disgusting look, it's not that bad. Once breakfast was over, we went with Ranger Joe to tear down a campsite that needed to be relocated. I had to dig up all the ashes from the fire ring and scatter them in bushes where potentially no one would see. We then did the observation activity and headed back towards camp to have lunch. After lunch we did another activity but it was based on answering a question and drawing conclusions from each group of 3 people. Later we got some free time. We also got started on building a fire. Once everyone had eaten dinner and sorta cleaned their bowls, we began our G.R.A.N.I.T.E. meeting. The "G" stood for gummy bears and each color represented a certain type of story we'd tell. I got a red one and had to tell a love story.
Challenge Hike: We started our hike early at 10:00, right after breakfast. I carried all the food. I'm navigating. What else would this group need? This hike got me thinking about my life though. Like what do I want from it.
