What is your culture or your familys impression of wilderness?

Living in a city for most of your entire life, eaves you clueless about the wilderness. My familys impression of wilderness is a perfect example of what people’s opionion of wilderness is. Since they have never been out here they believe that it is a scary place. A place where people get attacked by bears, full of disease infested bugs that bite you, people that randomly fall to their deaths from cliffs, getting stranded in the middle of nowhere, when it comes to the wilderness all they think about is all the negative things, and someday I hope to change their thoughts about it.

I have been out here for the past two days and so far I have been enjoying myself. I am glad that I took the opportunity to come to Yosemite. In my opinion it has opened my eyes to the things that we take for granted. Being out here in the wilderness is calming, there is no one to get mad at you for no reason, it is just trees, animals, rivers, waterfalls, everything that is not in the city’s surroundings. It’s better out here, better than the city, better than anything else out there. Today we hiked to a spot that no one has named, but we just did. That point is now called “REBIRTH.” Tomorrow we will be hiking back.

Thank you for this experience, it was amazing. I had a great time. You guys taught me to not be afraid to be myself. I will miss all of you! I hope to see you soon! Until next time Derek, Mindy, and Katie!

“REBIRTH!”
